Rally for the Courts' mission is to provide funding to the Town of Cape Elizabeth to assist with specific amenities for the new pickleball courts at Fort Williams Park. These items include court dividing fences, seating for each court, a water station as well as court maintenance tools.
Our team is made up of passionate residents who are committed to establishing pickelball as part of Cape's focus on healthy and active lifestyles for all residents. The team of ten includes Marc Weiss, Jim McFarlane, Jim Kerney, Luke Pfeifle, Sara Lennon, Peggy Williams, Henry Springer, Kathleen Pierce, Mark Casey and Glenn Jordan.
Our project is dedicated to enhancing the experience for the new pickelball courts which are being built during 2024 at Fort Williams Park under the guidance of the Town of Cape Elizabeth and the Fort Williams Park Committee.
Please support your courts by getting a check to any of the above listed members made out to Rally for the Courts or by contributing through Luke's RFTC Venmo account at @acadia04107
Checks made out to RFTC can be sent to RFTC c/o Jim Kerney, 1011 Shore Rd, Cape Elizabeth, ME 04107
100% of proceeds will go to the courts.
The old, tall and rusty tennis fencing and aging court surfaces have been removed by our GC Shaw Bros. They then added an 18" crushed stone base and court drainage in December. On 3/15/24, Joe Fourre of Cape and his "It's Green LLC" team were volunteering in the bitter cold wind & rain to install the waterline for the courts' new water bottle filling station.
We are currently building 8 new courts to address previous safety and crowding issues. RFTC's focus is on supplying safety fences between courts, installing court-side benches, providing a water bottle filling station and enhancing the the overall facility. The paving was completed 4/22, Burns Fencing has completed the fencing and custom Leaf Gates, the Water Station is in and the painting will be finished very soon.
The base construction and paving is complete, a few hearty volunteers built the benches which were installed by the town, and now the fences with their leaf gates are all installed. LP Murray has just installed the Water Station, and we are awaiting Stephen Hanlon Landscaping to install a path which has been donated largely by SPCE Rotary. Shaw Bros and Maine Track & Tennis are as eager as are we to get the job done, so please be patient. And once painted, DO NOT STEP ON THE COURTS until they are posted as open. The paint must cure before being played on. Our hope is to have this work completed in early July.
Once opened for play:
'Open Play' by ability (beginner, intermediate & advanced) will be on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings. Cape Elizabeth Community Services lessons may be scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and all other court times will be 'first come, first served' with a sign in board as needed.
The courts cannot be reserved or poached by large groups, tournaments or online organizations.
Email jimkerney@gmail.com with questions.
Please consider making a donation as we are still short on funding for our entrance area and pathway.
